Heightened awareness of racial and ethnic disparities in health care has led to a number of recent federal initiatives encouraging development of strategies to reduce these inequalities, but implementation and assessment of the programs has been hampered by the lack of data on patients' race or ethnicity. This project will evaluate government practices related to the collection of such information. Findings will inform policymakers, health system administrators, and others committed to improving minority health.
